POINTS TO REMEMBER WHEN COPYING SLIDES TO DIGITAL
-
You may have been used to viewing your slides on a 6 foot screen, or even larger. When you reduce these to prints or view them on a PC monitor or TV screen, they will lose visual impact, especially landscapes and shots of distant scenery.
-
With all the various copiers, point the camera at the window (in daylight), or aim about 50cm from a 60 watt light bulb. If there is insufficient light, move closer (but not too close! ), or use a brighter light source.
-
By using the zoom, you should then be able to frame the slide as required. You may find that you can only zoom a little way before the image is out of focus. This is not a fault, merely a limitation of the function of the camera.
-
All copiers have adjustments to enable the slide to be centred as necessary.
-
White balance should be set to auto, but if you experience a colour cast, try any manual settings you may have.
TO COPY NEGATIVES
-
Check that your camera has a menu option to allow you to convert from negative to positive. If not check that you have it in your imaging software.
-
Colour negative film has a red colour cast to the film base unless this is corrected, the results will be very blue when converting negative to positive. We can supply a filter (available extra). Depending on the software you have, you may find it has an option for copying colour negatives which should overcome any problems. Alternatively, it may be worth surfing the net as there may be a ‘plug-in’ which can be downloaded for your particular software.
