When using long telephoto or zoom lenses, a tripod should be used for maximum steadiness. Using the tripod screw on the camera can strain the camera lens mount as the weight of the lens is unsupported. The SRB~GRITURN TRIPOD LENS MOUNT fits the lens on the tripod thereby eliminating the problem.
A lens is not a simple cylinder. It has a variety of lumps and bumps caused by aperture rings, focus rings, switches or buttons, and is usually smaller towards the camera end than the front end. Whilst it would be ideal to mount the clamp at the balance position of the camera/lens combination, the design of the lens rarely affords us the luxury of a suitable clamping diameter at this position. We usually have to make do with selecting the most convenient mechanical site.
Two felt lined half sleeves are placed over the clamping position. An outer sleeve passes over the lens to the clamping position and locks the half sleeves in place. It has a tripod thread in the flat base, with a brass locking screw at the top. Slackening the screw enables the camera/lens to be rotated for portrait or landscape. Each unit is made to special order. Whilst we have extensive records, experience has shown that to avoid complications due to different incarnations of the same lens (which may be dimensionally different), it is safer to approach each request as new.
CAUTION
Some modern lenses have a polycarbonate body. A clamp will distort the barrel and prevent the zoom or focus functions from working. Try gripping your lens very hard around the clamping position and see if any movements become stiffer. If they do, then a clamp is not advisable.
