One of the problems in using digital cameras with telescopes is the need to fit the camera quickly—when the need arises. Ideally, you want to keep the telescope set up for visual use, without brackets or collars, and when you see something interesting, simply offer the camera to the scope eyepiece. This is the method chosen by many birders. This can be a bit hit and miss, especially when it comes to aligning everything centrally. Some customers have asked as to make simple alignment collars which either fit over the eyepiece, or clip into the rubber eyecup. In the centre of the collar is a hole which is the right size to fit over the lens of the digicam. Owing to the wide variety of eyepieces and different digicams, we can only make these to special order. They are made from black nylon.  We will need a dimensioned sketch of the eyepiece, and for the camera lens.  This system has the advantage that it enables you to use the zoom facility on the camera, and is especially useful for cameras with no lens filter threads. One disadvantage is that as you are holding the camera in position, you have to be very careful not to introduce camera shake.

We need the dimensions shown below. Ideally, they should be taken using a vernier calliper or micrometer. If you do not have these available try winding a strip of paper around the diameter and making a mark across the top and bottom layer with a fine pencil to show the overlap point . If you send this to us, we can measure the distance between the two marks to give us the circumference.

If your camera lens extends or retracts during zooming, we need to know the minimum lens depth as shown
