The root of the system is the INSTRUMENT ADAPTOR which consists of an inner collar having the same internal diameter as the eyepiece tube. The eyepiece fits into this inner ring, which in turn fits into the outer sleeve. This sleeve clamps around the eyepiece tube, giving a secure fixing. Spacers are then  fitted to the instrument adaptor, along with the appropriate camera body or filter thread mount. By choosing different spacers, the overall extension can be varied.
