HOW TO TAKE THE MEASUREMENTS

Ideally with a micrometer or vernier calliper. However if you do not have these, the best option is to cut two strips of paper, and wrap one tightly around the clamping diameter. Using a sharp pencil or fine point pen, make a mark on the paper exactly where the paper strip begins to overlap itself. When opened out, this will give us the circumference of the clamping position, and we can work out the diameter. Do the same thing on the largest part of the lens that the outer ring has to pass over to reach the clamping position. We can make clamps for lenses which have buttons or protrusions, but we will need more detailed measurements

 We need the following dimensions:

CLAMPING DIAMETER This is the portion of the lens to be fitted with the split inner sleeves. Although this would ideally be at the point of balance of the camera/lens combination, this is rarely possible. You need to select a portion of the lens barrel that DOES NOT MOVE or ROTATE when aperture, zoom, and focus are operated. We need to know the diameter of this portion.
CLAMPING WIDTH This is the width of the clamping position where the split inner sleeves are fitted. 8mm is the absolute minimum we can make. Typically, 20mm is ideal, but it does depend on the size and weight of the lens. Measurement can simply be done by a ruler. Always under-estimate the distance rather than over-estimate. You may find that when you operate the zoom or focus, the width of the clamping position varies. Please ensure you let us have the minimum width.
OUTER SLEEVE CLEARANCE DIAMETER We need to determine the inside diameter of the outer sleeve. The sleeve is a complete ring, so it must be able to pass over the thinnest end of the lens (usually at the camera end) to reach the clamping position. We need to know the largest diameter part of the lens that the ring has to pass over to reach the clamping position. This will give us the outer sleeve clearance diameter.

IF BALANCE IS IMPORTANT we can make the clamp with an extended foot which can allow the tripod socket to be at the required position.
IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE LENS we can make an outer sleeve for the largest lens, and inner sleeves for each lens
